Every day for the past 13 years I have picked up a copy of The Salt Lake Tribune for entertainment, news and opinion. But when I saw Pat Bagley's cartoon on "Dia de los Muertos" (Opinion, April 28) I was genuinely offended, not just as a Mexican, but also as a U.S. citizen.
The cartoon ridicules one of the oldest traditions in Mexico, the Day of the Dead. First, we don't picture our dead wearing Mariachi hats and eating candy. We respect them. Second, seeing a swine flu pig skeleton associated with the Day of The Dead truly made me angry because it also ridicules the acquaintances I have lost to this grave outbreak.
I wish that no one related to the cartoonist is ever associated with swine flu, but maybe that is the only way he would feel the same remorse I have been struggling with for each of my deceased compatriots.
