About the editorial "Bombing Gaza: Israel's short-term tactic" (Our View, Jan. 3) and its hopeful conclusion of the two-state solution, I ask: Since the two-state idea has not taken hold, why not a one-state solution that incorporates the principle of democracy and ensures and enforces liberty and justice for all, as we have in the United States?
Some might think that the one-state idea is impossible, that considering the differences in religion and nationality, a democracy is impractical. But what about all the money and blood that the United States has spent to establish one-state democracy, with liberty and justice for all in Iraq? Or am I using a bad example or faulty logic?
