Guns and smoking

The front page of Tuesday's paper shows a photograph of two men smoking a cigarette "on what could be one of the last cigarettes smoked inside a city bar" ("No butts about it," Tribune , Dec. 30).

Banning smoking in public space is smart and responsible.

Directly below this article is a photograph of a gun salesman for Fuzzy Bunny Movie Guns.

The story reports that "nearly 9,000 more guns were sold this November compared to the same month last year" ("Anxiety triggers gun sales in Beehive State," Tribune , Dec. 30).

Because I believe that both smoking in a public space and carrying weapons in a public space are just a wee bit dangerous, I offer a thought for a New Year resolution: Wherever one is not allowed to smoke, one is not allowed to carry weapons (permit or not).

Just a thought.
