Updated: 1:15 PM- Former Doll House escorts on Friday testified agency owner Santiago Steven Maese never directly told his employees to have sex with clients, but knew that was happening and encouraged it.

Former escort Nicole Fernandez told the jury after a client complained to Maese because she wanted $800 for sexual intercourse, Maese told her to be "a little more liberal."

She also said Maese once drove her to a hotel to see a client and told her "this is not just a lap dance." Fernandez said she replied, "I know, sexual stuff."

Another former escort, Heather Wright, testified "If I wanted to go out on calls, that's [sex] what I needed to do."

Danielle Thomas, a former escort, testified that Maese had urged her to lower her prices for sex, saying that $300 was too much to charge for intercourse. Thomas said she once arrived at an appointment and the client handed her $200 and asked if she had brought protection. She said she ended up on the phone talking to Maese, who told her to go buy some condoms and "make the guy happy."

When asked by defense attorney Gilbert Athay if Maese was a good employer, former escort Heather Tweed replied, "I have no complaints." She said Maese was "horrified" after a customer raped her and he even offered to call the police. Tweed said she opted not to get the police involved.

According to previous testimony, the Doll House charged a $145 fee to send an escort to a client. The Doll House got $100 of the fee, with the remainder going to the escort. Escorts were free to negotiate with clients to keep any additional moneys.

Doll House bank statements show the business grossed $12,000 during one month in 2005, according to prior testimony.

Maese, 31, allegedly ran The Doll House escort service as a prostitution ring between July 2004 and April 2006. He is charged with four counts of exploitation of prostitution, third-degree felonies punishable by up to five years in prison. He also is charged with engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity and money laundering, second-degree felonies punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Closing arguments in his trial are expected this afternoon.
