Posted: 3:32 PM- OREM - The body of a 51-year-old homeless man was found this afternoon in a canal near the Provo River in Orem.
Orem police received a call at 1:05 p.m. from a fisherman on the river who discovered the body in a canal that connected to the river near the mouth of Provo Canyon. A diver was called in, and it took about 90 minutes to pull the body from below 4 to 6 feet of water, said Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards. The man had lived in a tent nearby, Edwards said. He was fully clothed, wearing a jacket and shoes and had identification, he said. The man has brown hair and a beard.
"He hadn't been down there too long," Edwards said.
Edwards could not say whether foul play was suspected or not. Police are not releasing the man's name until family in Florida can be notified.
