The fight has come to the attention of police. The American Fork police chief said Saturday his office is seeking video of the fight.
"This is a state playoff game. Emotions do run a little hotter for these type of games," the police chief, Lance Call, told KUTV. "We are in the process of trying to get game film from both schools."
Neither Call nor KUTV specified whether police wanted the footage for a criminal investigation. Call did not return phone calls from The Salt Lake Tribune late Saturday.
Hunter played at American Fork on Friday in a quarterfinal playoff game. With 1 minute 59 seconds remaining in the game, American Fork scored a touchdown to take a 41-19 lead. It was the last play of the game.
A fight broke out on the field. Players from both sidelines joined in, shoving and throwing punches. Coaches, referees and police helped separate the combatants and the remainder of the game was canceled and American Fork was declared the winner.
Call said he was there.
"Unfortunately, the focus should be on those young men playing football who did a great job," Call told KUTV. "But a select few decided to ruin everyone's night.
Criminal charges for on-field behavior are rare in sports.
Last week, former Major League Baseball player Jose Offerman was sentenced to probation in Connecticut for attacking a pitcher with a baseball bat during a minor league game.
In the last decade, two National Hockey League players have been prosecuted in Canada for hits on unsuspecting victims.
