Police on Thursday arrested a man suspected of killing his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend in West Valley City.

The victim, 41-year-old Steve J. Doolittle, lives across the street from his ex-girlfriend near 3600 South and 5450 West, said West Valley City police Lt. Mike Coleman.

He had clashed in the past with her new boyfriend, 28-year-old Justin Guymon.

"Every time he'd go over to visit with her, pick her up they would get into confrontations," Coleman said.

On Thursday, Doolittle confronted Guymon as he left with his 27-year-old girlfriend. They fought, and Guymon stabbed Doolittle several times in the side and back, Coleman said.

Guymon left with the woman. Paramedics took Doolittle to Pioneer Valley Medical Center, where he died of his injuries about an hour later.

Sandy police tracked down Guymon's Ford Bronco about the same time. They called him on the phone, but he refused to turn himself in.

When he returned to the car, he tried to run but officers chased him down and arrested him on suspicion of homicide.
