A former Cedar City middle school teacher has admitted filming young females -- some who were students at the school -- in various states of undress and nudity while he peered through the windows of their homes.

Matthew Scott Adams, 31, pleaded guilty this week to one count each of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree felony voyeurism by electronic means and class A voyeurism by electronic means.

He faces up to 16 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 8 by 5th District Judge G. Michael Westfall.

Adams was arrested Jan. 8 after a couple taking a walk in a Cedar City neighborhood saw him looking into windows of an apartment and called police.

Adams told the officers he was in the area "looking for young women to record with a camera" and that he had been filming females for about a year, according to charging documents.

After viewing the recordings in the camera and others located later, police charged Adams with 17 counts for filming girls ranging in age from 13 to 16, four of whom were students at the middle school where Adams was a shop teacher. He resigned his position after his arrest.
