Salt Lake Valley health officials have confirmed a sixth Utahn infected with the H1N1 swine flu virus has died.
Pam Davenport, spokeswoman with the Salt Lake Valley Health Department, said a man between the ages of 25 and 50 died Saturday. It wasn't confirmed until today that he had the novel flu virus.
The man had what "looks like might be some underlying health condition," she said, though she couldn't release further details.
The announcement comes on the heels of three other recent deaths: A woman between the ages of 25 and 60 with underlying health conditions, a 47-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man with a liver condition.
A child between the ages of 5 and 18 died earlier this month. A 21-year-old died in May.
Utah is the only state in the Intermountain region with flu-attributed deaths; it has more confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu than any of its neighboring states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
