Logan police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping after he forced a woman -- at BB-gunpoint and in broad daylight -- to give him a ride.

Police said Anthony Nicholas Cornwell saw a 19-year-old woman in a Logan building near 250 North and Main Street around 5 p.m. on Thursday. He followed her out to the parking lot, where he brandished a handgun and commanded her to drive him to the Cache Valley Mall, said Logan Capt. Jeff Curtis.

She dropped him off at 5:30 p.m., and he got out of the car. The woman, who did not know Cornwell, then called police. Both the Cache Valley Mall and other area businesses were given a description of the man, and officers drove to the area but did not find the suspect.

The victim later identified Cornwell from a photo line-up. Police then picked up the suspect from his home, interviewed him and booked him into the Cache County Jail on suspicion of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, Curtis said.

Police later found the handgun, backpack and red hooded sweatshirt Cornwell was wearing during the alleged kidnapping in a Dumpster a few blocks from the mall.

They said the handgun he used in the kidnapping was a BB gun replica that looked like a Sig-Saur semi-automatic.
