Actor's son arrested in I-80 pot bust

The Utah Highway Patrol reported finding 38 pounds of marijuana inside a car driven by the son of the actor who played Col. John "Hannibal" Smith on the television show "The A-Team." The suspect, Christian Peppard, was booked into jail on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to distribute, the UHP reported Tuesday. When a trooper stopped Peppard's rental car near 3000 West on Interstate 80 in Salt Lake County, Peppard said he was the son of "A-Team" actor George Peppard, according to UHP. While the trooper was checking the man's information, a police dog indicated there were drugs near the car's trunk, UHP said.

Odgen arson suspect appears in court

An Ogden woman accused of setting fire to a string of vacant homes in order to speed up a redevelopment project planned for her blighted neighborhood made her first appearance in 2nd District Court on Wednesday. Marianne Mancuso, 47, was charged Tuesday with three counts of second-degree felony arson and one count of third-degree felony arson in connection with four recent fires in abandoned homes near 300 East and 18th Street. Ogden police say the fires started near where Mancuso lived and that she confessed to lighting the fires so the boarded-up homes would be demolished to make way for a redevelopment plan of new homes, shops and offices. Judge Scott Hadley on Wednesday appointed a public defender to represent Mancuso, whose next court appearance is a bail status hearing Friday.
