Grade: A

Pixar's "Up" just may be the legendary computer animation house's most enjoyable film, a vibrant storybook adventure that makes us laugh, cry, and feel exhilarated, all the reasons why we love movies. It also has the most oddball duo of protagonists, a cute but eager Boy Scout and a gruff widower (voiced by Ed Asner) who go on a wild journey to South America in a house sent aloft by helium balloons. This glorious animated film also is Pixar's most picturesque and technically detailed movie, yet the animation never overtakes the hilarious, moving story. The Blu-ray version, in particular, boasts a gorgeous video transfer, and is packed with wonderful making-of documentaries that display Pixar's strict commitment to quality entertainment. If only all of Tinsletown's movie makers shared the same passion.
