The Tribune editorial board chose to endorse Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination, citing her "experience and sheer toughness" ("Hillary Clinton: N.Y. senator is best choice among Democrats," Our View, Jan. 26).

If we are to choose our candidate based on these two characteristics, the logical choice would be a write-in campaign for Donald Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney. Both have many more years of executive branch experience and are more renowned for their political toughness.

As you wrote, America is "bogged down in two wars, burdened by a crushing deficit and hurtling toward recession" - not for a lack of experience and toughness in previous administrations, but for a lack of good judgment. Sen. Barack Obama has the right combination of experience, toughness, and good judgment. I hope Utahns will weigh judgment in equal measure with experience as they vote on Feb. 5.
