OGDEN - Mayor Matthew Godfrey continued collecting record amounts of campaign cash in the past eight weeks, bringing in more than $83,000 and pushing his total raised so far to more than $183,000, according to finance reports filed Friday.

His challenger, Susan Van Hooser, raised more than $25,000 in the reporting period that began Sept. 1, bringing her total raised to $52,000.

Godfrey, who is seeking a third term, has spent more on a campaign consultant alone than Van Hooser, a one-year councilwoman, has raised.

According to Friday's campaign finance report, he has paid a Draper political consulting firm more than $54,000 since Sept. 1 for campaign management, public relations, mailer printing, telephone marketing and surveying.

Godfrey had already paid Guidant Strategies more than $13,000 before the September primary.

According to the state's Department of Commerce, the registered agent for Guidant Strategies is Jason Powers, a consultant who ran Republican John Swallow's unsuccessful campaign for the 2nd Congressional seat in 2002.

Van Hooser reports no spending on campaign consultants.

Much of Godfrey's campaign money reported in his first filing came from developers, construction companies and real estate interests, and his most recent report includes some similar donations as well as sizable donations from ski companies and individuals.

Goode Ski Technologies, which relocated its headquarters to Ogden a couple of years ago, donated $5,000, and several individual donations ranged from $3,000 to $7,000.

Van Hooser's $25,000 came mostly from individuals, some kicking in as much as $3,000. R&O Construction, which is active in Ogden real estate projects, donated $2,500, and the local union that represents city firefighters donated $1,000. R&O previously donated the same amount to Godfrey's campaign.

In the council races since Sept. 1, Sheila Aardema raised $400 and Blain Johnson raised $8,600 in the race for the two-year at-large seat; Caitlin Gochnour raised $3,670 and Kent Petersen raised $8,038 in the campaign for the four-year Ward 4 seat; and Royal Eccles raised $3,575 while incumbent Amy Wicks raised $2,670 in the race for the four-year at-large seat.
